The commissioning of Benifallet treatment plant is a step forward in the environmental improvement of the river Ebro

A representation of the Baix Ebre County Council, headed by its president Daniel Andreu and the mayor of Benifallet, Mercè Pedret, yesterday paid a visit to the new wastewater treatment plant in Benifallet, which manages this month the we county. The visit was also attended by representatives of the Catalan Water Agency, who built the plant, Benifallet City Council, the Terres de l'Ebre Environmental Policy Consortium and the company Aqualia, responsible for the operation.

The new treatment plant in Benifallet, which has involved an investment of close to one million euros (VAT included), has a capacity of 285 m3 / day, equivalent to a population of 880 inhabitants. The plant is of biological type with nitrification process with activated sludge by prolonged aeration. It is made up to two pumping stations that drive the wastewater through a 1,425-meter-long collector to the treatment plant and from there, once treatedm the treated water is led by another collector reader 448 meters long to the river Ebro. The operating, conservation and maintenance budget is 72,739 euros (excluding VAT) for year.

With the one in Benifallet, there are already 9 treatment plants operating in the Baix Ebre: Tortosa-Roquetes, Deltebre, L'Ampolla, l'Aldea, l'Ametlla de Mar, el Perelló, Camarles and Marina Sant Jordi, which guarantee the sanitation of the 91% of wastewater. The one in Tivenys will soon enter service and the ones in Aldover-Xerta and Paüls-Alfara de Carles are under study.

The president of the Baix Ebre County Council, Daniel Andreu, described the entry into operation of the Benifallet treatment plant as "a new steo forward in the environmental improvement of the river Ebro". "This is a model construction made by the Catalan Water Agency that responds to our desire to respect the environment", he added.
